A: Having spent over two decades in education, my experiences as a former high school English teacher offer authentic insights into the public school system. I strive to capture the realities faced by African-American women, grounding my narratives in realism.

 

Q: Your journey from educator to author is fascinating. What inspired you to transition into entrepreneurship and pursue a career as a writer?

 

A: My love for reading, fostered by my parents who were educators, ignited my passion for storytelling. Influenced by literary giants like Nikki Giovanni and Maya Angelou, I felt compelled to document the richness of African-American life and share empowering stories with the world.

 

Q: What are your top aspirations for your business in the coming years?

 

A: Over the next five years, my goal is to secure representation and land a multi-book deal with a major publishing house. This would allow me to devote myself fully to my writing career.

 

Q: The publishing market can be quite competitive. How do you navigate these challenges and carve out your niche as an author?

 

A: While the publishing market is saturated, my determination to offer unique perspectives and authentic storytelling keeps me moving forward. I focus on staying true to my voice and experiences.

 

Q: Balancing entrepreneurship with personal life can be demanding. How do you manage to find harmony between the two?

 

A: I'm fortunate to have a supportive network of family and friends who provide unwavering encouragement. Their support fuels my journey and helps me maintain balance between my business and personal relationships.

 

Q: What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs, particularly those looking to break into the world of writing and publishing?

 

A: Finding mentors who can offer guidance and learning from their experiences is invaluable. Perseverance and continuous growth are key to navigating the challenges of entrepreneurship.

 

Q: Reflecting on your journey, what would you say has been your boldest business move so far?

 

A: Publishing my first book after years of hesitation was definitely my boldest move. It was a leap of faith spurred by a realization of the importance of pursuing my dreams.

 

Q: When you're not immersed in writing, what are your favorite pastimes?

 

A: I find solace in reading and sewing, which nurture my creativity and inspire my writing.

 

Q: Do you have a mantra or guiding principle that keeps you grounded in your entrepreneurial journey?

 

A: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." This reminder of my purpose and a source of strength keeps me anchored. 

Q: What achievement are you most proud of with regard to your business?

 

A: I take pride in having published six books and cherish the validation received from literary icon Nikki Giovanni.

 

Q: Lastly, what's your go-to motivational song when you need a boost of inspiration?

 

A: Beyoncé's empowering anthems never fail to energize and uplift my spirits, especially when I need a dose of motivation.
